Thanks for the links!

1. That article makes me too sad. :C

2. Aww, love those pictures! But I'm in trepidation for the next episode. D:

3. Oh, I'd love a Disco Secret Santa (or a all-Trek Secret Santa). :D

2. Oh yay, Klingons. I greatly enjoy looking at their costumes and settings, tho. Are we going to get a GAY SPACE SCIENTISTS KISS?? Why does Tilly look so solemn?

3. AUGH -- but a fic exchange sounds fun! Did it get into Yuletide? I don't remember.

They do look about to kiss! At least super shippy, which I've been craving for those two crazy kids. ❤

The Klingon look has been growing on me too. L'Rell's white costume with the blood-on-the-horns pointy bits! So OTT in such a ridiculously plausible way for a people trying to out-aggress one another. And weirdly pretty? Maybe they'll adjust the makeup as the show goes on so we get more facial expressions?

I guess a hiatus will give me time to catch up on everything else I've been putting off...

That costume was gorgeous -- it reminds me of the Egyptian gold treasures a little bit in general? All the detailing?

WE BETTER GET ONE GAY SPACE KISS.

people (mostly men) saying Disco was shite, and other people (mostly women) saying "maybe your subjective opinion is not fact?"

>:-(

I'm so happy my husband likes the show and we enjoy it, altho he's a physics geek so the shroom drive whatever kind of makes him wince. (I am heartless and find it amusing.) He did really like the tardigrave. "That's a waterbear!" he said in delight while I was still going WTF.

Star Trek Discovery made it into Yuletide but, since signups closed around the time the 3rd episode aired, a lot of the prompts are Michael & Georgiou.

Oooh that teaser pic of Michael with the Klingon column thingy behind her!

LALALALAAAA SHE'S NOT DED AND NEITHER IS PHILIPPA NOPE NOPE

AUGH I am not ready for a hiatus but fandom activity is a good idea! At least some kink meme fills or something?

ETA: There's another post on the TrekMovie site talking about episode 10 speculations, in which the commenters are all convinced that "stranded with new foes" or whatever means the Mirrorverse. What do we think about that?

Someone speculated Mirroverse could have Evil Philippa, which is kind of terrifying and delicious.

I dunno about Evil Philippa, but I am so very here for Intendant Philippa, or whatever other flavor of Dominatrix Philippa is a thing.

I had forgotten how kind of nervewracking it is for me to watch something in open canon, I'm all 'PHILLIPPA IS TOTALLY ALIVE' and 'I LOVE YOU SHOW, DON'T SCREW UP.' Hah. As long as it doesn't turn into the Redemption of Lorca I'll be happy. (I'm fine with an eleventh-hour self-sacrifice play! I just don't want him as the focus.)

Kink meme fills or comment fests could be fun, like the tropes idea, or a kissfest or what have you. (dammit I need some icons)

YEAH MAN I think the only other open media canon I have is MCU, and I basically went LOLNOPE for most of it after Winter Soldier, altho I was really heartbroken/disgusted after AoU and CW and it killed a lot of my enthusiasm. -- But Disco is still so shiny (LOL) and new and it has SONEQUA (so expressive! so gorgeous!) and canon gay and the white male captain isn't the saviour hero and TILLY and oh God, show, please, don't go off the rails and break my heart.

I guess the comics on my pull list are open canon too, but they come out so slowly. Also, most of the ones I like were CANCELLED. (I am also praying my patented show-killing abilities don't hurt this one. Altho they already have an S2, so yay there.)

Oh yeah, I told a lie, the open canon I was also into was Dark Matter! .....which was GUILLOTINED three seasons into a five-season plot, while freaking Killjoys got extended for two more. I was so sad.

A fannish life is a hard one, man.

What exactly is tinhating in this context? According to the urban dictionary, it's imagining two celebrities are in love, like those two guys from Supernatural. So far, no one has written Discovery RPF, but now that I said that...

I've heard about the LOTR stuff. Hmm, if historical figures count as celebrities than I am definitely a tinhatter, because Elizabeth/Dudley was totally canon and now I'm veering off topic.

The article on startrek.com could be a red herring, but so could Jayne's comments. I guess we won't know for sure until Sunday.

OMG, his IRL accent //misses point entirely

So, who is the mysterious Lieutenant Tyler? “He’s very dark,” Latif says. “He’s got a lot of inner turmoil, he’s a very complex character. It’s not just that classic lighthearted action hero character. It gets dark and emotional.” Central to Tyler’s character arc will be Discovery’s leading lady, Burnham, who does fit the mold of an action hero. Latif says the subversive gender roles are another of the show's strengths: “[Tyler]’s a very vulnerable man. We’ve got Sonequa who is playing a powerful woman. We’ve flipped it. It’s trying to change that idea of what strong is. You can be vulnerable and strong—you don’t just have to be able to punch someone and be macho. That’s what we like about [Marlon] Brando in On the Waterfront.”

Aww yeah, that is my catnip. (As long as Michael doesn't have to Emotionally Heal Him or something, but she does not seem like the type, thankfully.)

I love how Disco has turned Sarek into Worst Father Ever (unless it was earlier in canon and I didn't see it).

-- I just hope the writers don't go for one of those awful "the Strong Woman learns to love by tending to her man's Feelings" bits. I mean, if anyone is equipped to handle Feelings, it's Tilly! Come to think of it, I could totally deal with some h/c of my OT3 with Tilly being the Strong One for them as Michael and Ash go "Feelings, UGH."

....I'm just way overinvested in this show. Already, LOL. I completely blame Sonequa. She's an amazing actress. Of course Michelle Yeoh as CAPTAIN in the damn pilot ep didn't hurt either. And we got Admiral Kat! What a show. But if it weren't for Sonequa I'd probably just be hanging out while my husband watched it in the background, going "A new Trek show, oh, that's nice, dear." Altho that was how he got me into The Expanse, heh.
