I want to call for a really IMPORTANT prediction: what will be the weird last-minute pairing we get in Discovery's final season?

Precedents range from "weird, but kind of cool" (Worf/Troi) to "inoffensive but perfunctory" (Bashir/Ezri Dax") to "20 years later and people are still mad" (Chakotay/Seven).

Myself, I'm calling it for Saru/Tilly.

Saru/Mirror Georgiou! By the final season, they will have been thrown together in many awkward misadventures and developed a grudging respect for one another. By this point Georgiou's villain decay trajectory has reached "grumpy antihero who hardly ever eats people anymore", and Saru has become 1000% more sarcastic. Fans of the future will bitterly complain about this exact moment being the point at which the shark was well and truly jumped.

(I just want someone to write Saru/Mirror Georgiou fanfiction. It's the worst, most awful no good ship ever and I am drawn to it like a moth to a blowtorch.)

MORE STARFLEET. The crew getting to interact as an ensemble! Everybody gets lines! Away teams! Funky new aliens! Philosophy and exploration and no tardigrades hurt! Tilly learning command skills! Michael using everything she's learned to be Even More Amazing now that she's got her commission back.

MORE GAY: Part 2 of the promised epic Culber/Stamets h/c longfic arc. Make me actually care about this ship beyond "aww, they're cute," eh, show? Also: Give the Background Lesbians names and some lines.

PIPPA AND KAT AND L'RELL: Can come back lots as recurring characters, right? (The only one I'm actually nervous about possibly not returning for season 2 is Kat. Pippa is p. much going to pop up occasionally to make Michael's life interesting, I feel, and L'Rell is the head of the Klingons, so she'll show up now and then.)

TRILLS: Because I am shallow.

MERKIN: Come home to mama, be Kat's trauma animal. <3


DNWs: Making the Enterprise a major focus. They do keep saying "This show is called Discovery, not Enterprise!" so I have some hope there.

Also, no walking back on the beautiful complex storylines with women and people of colour getting to have emotional arcs and character development and stuff. No somehow mysteriously making everybody important a white dude. :P No...whatever it was they did on season 2 of Sleepy Hollow. Don't fuck this up, guys.

But I'm actually pretty optimistic generally. WHEN is it out, is what I wanna know.

Borrowing HEAVILY from that interview Nenya linked, I'm betting (not necessariy wanting) we'll get:

- At least one "EM-peror Pippa returns to fuck shit up" episode (maybe a two-parter)
- Something with Hugh on the Mushroom Planet ("The presence of Dr. Culber will continue to be extremely important" I dunno WTF even you're going for there, showrunner. He better APPEAR at least once.)
- Something with Prime!Lorca? (Isaacs: "Yeah I lied to all of you interviewers when I told you I was done lying, uh, sorry")
- We'll get drop-ins on Chancellor L'Rell and Ash may be some kind of ambassador or envoy who visits
- No more war, more away missions, more aliens ("what ‘Star Trek’ does really well, which is philosophy and debate and intellectual ideas and science and all those things")
- Yeah, the shroom drive causes brain damage and MU Stamets fucked it up to the extent it would destroy everything and it's black ops to the core, but you don't just suspend something that juicy. They better not kill Paul off too tho
- Captain Pike for the first couple of episodes, and recurring presence
- also Number One? (I would DIE)
- Michael and Spock working together ditto?
- Tilly on the road to Captaincy
- Saru ditto
- Probably fewer Klingons ("don’t be surprised to see Klingons but I don’t how Klingon-centric the stories will be for the entire journey and the whole arc of next season")
- More continuity with TOS? ("We’re now in an area where we have documented events happening out there in the universe somewhere that are around the same period")
- I also understood better what Shazad was talking about when he said it's like a "love triangle" between Voq, Ash, Michael and L'Rell, if Voqash is going to be helping L'Rell out, and if he has some reason to be around. I don't think they're going to be major players, but there'll probably be an arc. If that's possible I would really rather Michael have another love interest TILLY or just choose herself to be cookie dough etc.

....it sounds like Captain Pike may be in command on Disco. :-/ Maybe temporarily? I am betting Mysterious Captain on Vulcan will be killed or evil somehow, and we'll get Pike subbing in. (Maybe Number One will take over on Enterprise! oooh)

More bridge crew, please! They don't have to get as much screentime as the main cast, but right now they're stuck in a weird no-dialogue zone. Mirror Detmer got more lines and personality than Original Flavour Detmer, which was just bizarre.

My parents shared TOS with me when I was so tiny I don't remember not liking it. It was the late seventies and it was just kind of always on in syndication and they would put it on and...

OMG, YES to Tilly & Hugh, didn't we see they had a bit of a friendship? Tilly works with Paul so I can see them wryly commiserating about his roughness a little bit, but appreciating him too.

YES, the bridge crew is fascinating looking and we didn't get to know them even a little bit until nearly the end.

Give him a battlefield promotion! Recognition of having served under (heh) MU Lorca! I still want Captain Michael tho. And Captain Tilly.


I don't remember so much violence but oh my fucking God, the way they kept repeating the torture/sex scenes with L'Rell and Ash was way too fucking much. Also, I didn't need to see Hugh getting his neck snapped, and I REALLY didn't need to see it on "previously on" and flashbacks.
