Star Trek: Discovery 3.11 - "Su'Kal"
Dec. 25th, 2020 10:13 amFirst of all, I'm really sorry I missed last week -- I was so busy having EMOTIONS that I completely spaced out.
Second of all, how about "Su'Kal", eh?

Date: 2020-12-24 11:20 pm (UTC)Other things:
- "Hey, let's do 'Basics' only this time it's not shit" - how I assume the conversation in the writers room went
- Tilly went Full Janeway and I love it.
- Honestly, everything with Tilly and Michael's relationship, their mutual respect and support, is so great. I'm very sad that Michael didn't make it back in time to give us Michael And Tilly In Command.
- I feel like one of Discovery's recurring themes is that it's not necessarily bad to be emotionally compromised. On the other hand, maybe sometimes it is? I don't feel like Saru has earned the indulgence he gets in this episode, but I also love him here and agree that he's best positioned to help Su'Kal.
- As soon as Paul gets command of his faculties back, Adira and Hugh will BOTH be grounded.
- I am deeply uncomfortable with how attractive I find Doug Jones.
- I've said too much.
- Michael Burnham with cats and children. That's it. That's my thought.
- "Gee, it sure is a shame we let Georgiou leave right before Osyraa turned up" -- I assume this was intentional on the part of the writers, but it's still a shame we'll never get to see that showdown.
- Let's face it, Georgiou would have Osyraa begging for mercy in less than half an hour.

Date: 2020-12-25 01:41 am (UTC)- NGL Human!Saru looks a lot like the person I crushed on/had an on-again, off-again relationship with in high school, and I'm uncomfortably here for that
- They only wrote Georgiou out because she's OP as fuck and she'd have wiped the floor with Osyraa
- Osyraa is a boring Big Bad
- Loved the floaty monsters in the sky
- Loved the whole fairy tale motif, right down to Burnham in her red hood
- Tilly was pretty great, though I'd have appreciated it if they signalled that she was trashtalking Osyraa to buy Stamets enough time to get the shields fixed
- I am not getting the Gray plot? It seems disconnected from everything else

I am still waiting to see where the Gray plot is going. I am betting that the program will recognize Gray as a separate person, give him a form and let him meet the others.

Date: 2020-12-25 11:41 pm (UTC)Like they have to do something to give Gray a body, otherwise it's another Tragic Trans Narrative, and I really don't think the show would do it or the two actors involved would be as enthusiastic as they genuinely seem to be.

Date: 2020-12-25 09:15 pm (UTC)The potential galaxy ending events are so damn boring.
I am extremely happy about the cause of the burn!! I was half-dreading that the Burn would have been caused by Discovery's arrival to the future, and I'm so pleased that it wasn't!
But... how long do Kelpians live??? Su'Kal is 125 years old already and doesn't even have a beard yet. :O

Date: 2025-01-20 08:44 pm (UTC)I like how we‘re starting with the memorial again. It‘s respectful.
The return of Gray was handled well.
Prettyy necula!
Book is risking too much to prove himself.
Gruuuuudge!
Not sure what Culber means about finding a purpose, he had one before!
Love Michael sharing the Georgiou story.
Love to see Tilly in the captain‘s chair
Looooove to see Doug Jones
I love the whole structure and atmosphere of this episode.
Love Michael thinking on her feet and becoming a program.
Doug Jones’s lovely face! Ah he made me cry.
