So in thinking about it, between those two options I think Q is more likely. The reason why is, in City on the Edge of Forever, the characters' actions in the past clearly affected the later timeline, as we saw when it cut back to the rest of the Enterprise crew still in the 23rd century. On the other hand, Tapestry was just in Picard's mind. In this episode, we've already seen Georgiou kill mirror Stamets at what would have been a point before most of the events of season 1 happened. I'm pretty sure that would have caused some kind of change to the timeline, but we've seen nothing like that so far.

I’m dying on the hill of a split in the mirror timeline akin to the Kelvin and main timeline in the prime universe. Though that wouldn’t make her disorder better, so...

Ah, but it can! She's been flung back to a few years before she left, which probably means less strain. Maybe no appreciable strain, even. It's 900 years of time travel plus hopping universes that's doing her in. 2-5 years early? Not so bad. Might even be therapeutic, depending on what kind of temporal handwaving is going on.

My Another Theory is probably something of a cop-out, in that becoming an energy being is just a Socially Acceptable Thing For Societies To Do. He's a Something Else, possibly left over from the Temporal Wars. (...I mean. How do you actually stamp out time travel? The whole point is that lunatics keep doing it, on purpose or by accident. You didn't blow up the Bajoran's time-travel Orb, did you? You better not. I mean, I suppose you could chuck it back into the wormhole... But add in dadgum energy beings and HOW DO YOU STOP THEM?)

(Spouse and I don't think the doorman's a Prophet, though. Too coherent.)
