Bit late this week, sorry -- for some reason moving house has really impacted my fannish work. I need to reassess my priorities.

My thoughts, in no particular order:

- where is Grudge?
- what's she doing?
- is she happy?
- A+ knitwear for a post-spacepocalyptic future, well done guys
- Saru and Tilly are in a western, but they don't know it
- I'm not saying this could do with some Baby Yoda, I just think a little Baby Yoda never hurt anyone
- Discovery crew: pulling together, solving problems. Georgiou, a horrible goose: I think I will cause problems on purpose.

- I have never identified with a Star Trek character so strongly as when Jett was complaining about her bad back

Grudge is main cast, I'm sure she's as happy as a cat ever is.

I enjoy the knitwear. Did they just have it lying around? Is there like a TARDIS wardrobe full of various eras of clothing lying around the ship? I know a few people in the costuming department and sometimes fabric finds its way to my school and I really hope we get some.

I loved the ridiculous Westernness of the whole thing.

I love Georgiou even more. She's my favourite. I don't even care that she's a space fascist; she's chaotic chaotic and I'm here for it.

Cleaning up the the Leland bits was hilarious. I like that they just kept going with the gag and it still wasn't clean at the end.

I identified with Jett so hard. That's my life every day and I appreciated seeing it depicted as such.

Was it just me or is Culber growing a little personality?

The sentimental Starfleet stuff did not make me sniffly as much as it did last episode for some reason.

I think my issue is that so many people deserve to be roundhouse-kicked in the face and then blasted repeatedly until they die, and I obviously can't do this, so it's cathartic watching a character who can.

(No lie she's my favourite on the show. Michael is who I most want to be like, Georgiou is basically my id.)

I feel like, I basically am Tilly, Michael is the ideal, Georgiou is the evil ideal who looks great in black leather. (Also, all hail Michelle Yeoh who is obviously having a BLAST in the role.)

I think the real reason I love her is she is so UNQUALIFIEDLY devoted to Michael. Like, she's evil and chaotic, but she's also going to do absolutely anything to protect her bb girl. I'm just a sucker for that kind of trope, where someone has basically no ethics except for this ONE person, and when it's mother/daughter, I can't resist.

Pretty sure they replicate clothing for away missions. Just like they showed Michael replicating her uniform way back in season 1.

I have yet to warm to Georgiou. I feel like she is just sexy chick in black leather talks sexy, non-stop, it's kind of cheesy to me. I am hoping they figure out a way to meaningful expand her character if they're going t keep her around.

Very happy Nhan is featured right away this season. She had an interesting introduction in s2, but then faded completely into the background.

I would like to think I'm the badass hero (Michael) or maybe the stalwart captain (Pike) but in reality I am absolutely Jett: grumpy engineer complaining about my bad back.

I really should not write a fic about Michael and Book and Baby Yoda but what if it was a DIFFERENT Baby Yoda and it's about them meeting up with Mando and handing their Baby Yoda off and Mando's clan grows and oh no I'm crying?

I admire Saru's devotion to the ideals of Starfleet in adversity, but they absolutely did not know they were in a Western and it was hilarious. They even had a saloon door!

My pet theory is that at the end of this season Georgiou will jump back in time to run Section 31 (if anyone can find illegal time travel technology in the 32ndC, it's her), but I like the push and pull of her and Saru in the meantime. They both need each other for different things and they know it.

I want to know more about Nahn, and hopefully we will someday.

Anyway, my thoughts during this episode were roughly 1) everything about that opening sequence terrified the shit out of me, 2) TILLY'S HAAAAAAAAAAIR, 3) ... don't make me ship Nhan/Georgiou hate!sex, show, I will do it, see if I don't, 4) genuinely excellent knitwear, 5) were there other characters beside Jett and Georgiou? Probably, but those are the ones I loved most.

in conclusion, there are more Grudge photos out there now, which means I need to make some icons.

Okay, I admit I do not watch this show tremendously carefully, but I feel like I missed something regarding Georgiou being referred to as Commander. Did the show ever explain that, given that they were pretending to outsiders that she was still Prime-Universe Captain Georgiou? Or have they just given up on that completely, since all of Disco was in the Mirror Universe, in which case I'm kind of surprised they accord her the honour of a rank at all?

Gosh, I loved watching Saru and Tilly together. Saru has grown so far from his initial fearfulness, and he's so good at noticing and supporting similar anxieties.

I wondered the same thing! I've decided that, in the absence of instructions to the contrary, Saru has made the executive decision to demote her, and is daring her to say something and thus suggest she cares about mere Starfleet titles.

OMG. 😂 Unless and until this is explicitly counteracted on screen, I'm accepting this headcanon.

I LOVE the push and pull between them. It delights me. I love so much that "dinner" is holding his own against the ex-Emperor, and also that Pippa is, idk, being a useful horrible goose? Largely out of attachment to Michael, but I'm glad she doesn't seem to want to run the ship (or even the universe, at the moment). She's more fun kicking people inna head (and I think she thinks so too).

* I really don't like seeing bridge crew get hurt, and then there's seemingly nobody on hand to replace them. (Also, is she traumatized or now connected to the ship somehow? Is the ship getting a storyline? I would be EXCITE.)
* speaking of seemingly irreplaceable people who are injured, why was Stamets
in that tiny shaft doing the seemingly basic-ass repair?? I am not amused or impressed, the ship's repair hinges on it, and he's stubbornly dragging himself in there? :/ We would have had equally amusing banter if both injured parties stayed outside and bitched from the sidelines.
* Saru being such a supportive Captain, my heart! Tilly being an excellent first impression *melts into a puddle*
* THE KNITWEAR. Like, we better spy Tilly snuggling in this stuff in her quarters at some point. COMFY.
* When they were talking about how they knew Starfleet would come to help them, I thought "ooooh Michael's been busy :DDD" (There being a time skip was pretty much spoiled by Michael's grown out hair in the promo poster.)
* That death was unneccessarily cruel and drawn out :(
* Giorgeou being here to sass and fuck shit up, but also very focused on finding Michael. Right this instant.
* I hope the ice crawled up that guy's butthole and murdered him most uncomfortably. I really really do. You don't talk to Tilly like that.
* Yay they're reunited! Now everyone can get quality time with Grudge, Grudge for Therapy Cat!! Next time someone needs medical treatment, put cat on top of them. Now they can't get up, this is facts.

OMG! Stamets doing that repair made me so dang mad. Not just the fact that he could get hurt even more but also that he could extend the repair time putting everyone at risk. I don't know if they wanted to remind us that Stamets has engineering knowledge or what but I wanted to choke him, which is counterproductive.

All he did is remove a part from the panel and replace it with another one, too, and had to be directed on how to do it. How was he needed up there?

He wasn't, I think was the point! He was just doing the "I'm not going to stay in bed, I want to be useful!" routine and being a stubborn dumbass about it, and as much as I winced at how much he was hurting himself unnecessarily, I enjoyed the episode (via Jett) calling him out on it. A lot of times the hero does something like that and is lauded for their rash actions saving the day, and this time it was just like...no, you doofus. Send someone who hasn't just been stabbed in the gut up the Jeffries tube! You have a bunch of them! Geez.

I honestly cannot remember where they were going with Detmer in the other episodes, but I am truly worried about her. She did such a good job showing that she was not alright.

Personally I also loved the knitwear, so textural.

Late but I'll Share My Thoughts on this episode

Overall liked the episode. Not quite as much as the previous episode but still really enjoyed it.

Liked:

Tilly being an excellent example of humanity for 1st contact. Couldn't agree more she's sweet and completely non-threatening.

Loved the scene where we have Stamets in the med-bay and it's empty and quiet and then he wakes up and all the chaos drama and fear come rushing back.

Loved the crash sequence of the crew working through how to best mitigate and survive the crash

Loved the insight that Saru demonstrated into Georgiou's behavior. He's really showing his mettle as captain in dealing with her.

Michael's braids.

Did not like:

The bar fight. Michelle Yeoh in action was great, Saru standing by and watching not so much. Am I the only one who remembers how fast and strong Saru is? He should have helped, I don't understand why he didn't.

The boring away mission clothes. Yes they look incredibly warm and snuggly but why has each away mission outfight just been something plain and black. I thought they were supposed to try and fit in. Does no one wear color planetside anymore? It would be nice to see some variation and world-building with away missions.

The interactions in the bar and Stamets doing the repair were used to build tension and didn't work so well for me. I felt the bar scenes were stretched unnecessarily when they could have just used the creepy parasitic ice engulfing the ship for that, oh well.

Overall I still enjoyed it. I feel like so far this season is way ahead of season two and I'm excited for next week's episode.

Unsure:

So are we going to have a time skip with flashbacks? I'm really curious as to what Michael has been up to over the past year. I hope the fact that a year has passed doesn't mean whatever relationship they are building with Michael and Booker is rushed. Star Trek isn't about romances and I'm fine with that but I like my relationships to grow over time even if it is in the background.

Georgiou, I feel like they haven't done much with her character other than "sexy bad ass in black who says inappropriate and uncomfortable things while looking smug". The character feels cheesy and one dimensional to me. I'm not sure if it's just that she doesn't fit well on Discovery or what but I wish the writers would do something more interesting with her.
