....At least it's less jokey and LULZ-y than the earlier one? With that awful song? The music in this is much better, and we get some lovely sensawunda shots although I should hope for that with all the $$$ they're spending. Not thrilled in the apparent shift of emphasis from Michael to Spock, and the replacement of Lorca by Pike, altho to be fair asking anyone to follow Jason Isaacs is gonna suck. This does look a bit more like 'traditional Trek,' i.e. more in keeping with some of that very built-up backstory about the Klingons and Spock &c &c., but that's not really what I was into Disco for.

I dunno. I will try to keep an open mind. It's just the trailer.

I think this is lovely and also important in a season which promises to have a fair whack of Sarek and Spock. Michael needs to assert that Saru and the Disco team are her chosen family.

Speaking of Spock, who the fuck is Ethan Peck? He seems like just another generic white guy.

YES altho Ash will be gone. Altho he was already gone. This actually really just strengthens my desire to write a time travel Everything Is Fixed No Genocide AU where Stamets gets them back in time to BEFORE Culber dies (if he's bringing him home, makes sense, yes??) and they all know what happened in the future and can overthrow Lorca and so on. Hah.

I know I have a rep as a Mean Bitch but it honestly looks like they chose him for his partial resemblance to Zachary Quinto. He looks and sounds NOTHING like Spock.

Anson Mount has said that his role as Pike is to augment Burnham as protagonist, so I suspect he'll have about the same level of prominence as Lorca, albeit with a different narrative role.

It just seems like such a waste they're not somehow bringing back Non-Mirror-Lorca somehow, since he had such strong ties to the crew, but I guess that's what fanfic's for.

Alex Kurtzman said at SDCC that if prime!Lorca came back, it would be to serve Michael's story. And that seems fair.

Yeah. It looks like, from IMDb, he might only be in flashbacks until they find him in the last episode. So while a lot of the arc will be about Spock, he won't dominate screen time and we will have more time for Michael and crew.
