I found this article on the BBC about how female writers are writing descriptions of themselves in the style of bad male writers on Twitter and thought it might be entertaining/relevant to some members of this group!

(This is not meant to offend anybody - I know some excellent male writers and there may be some in this comm, but the majority of writers I talk to at the moment are female. This is just a bit of fun, meant to highlight those who persistently portray women in stereotypes rather than creating unique and varied characters.)

So here’s me:

She was dressed in faded jeans and tshirt, with dark blond hair that curled all over the place haphazardly. She looked young for her years, and might have been pretty if she lost a bit of weight and bothered taking a bit more care with her appearance.

I can't decide if this is amazing or depressing! I like the snark displayed by the women quoted, though.

Let's see...

She was a fiery redhead with, he presumed, a temper to match. She was effervescently friendly (except when she was frowning at him from behind a book), and she wore a nerdy t-shirt she'd probably borrowed from her boyfriend. He wondered if she could be enticed away for a threeway with him and the blonde.

:D

LOL. Change "dark blonde" to "auburn" and my description is exactly the same as yours.

Another thing that is going around Twitter is "write yourself (or someone who requests it) as if written by a feminist author" -- which is pretty cool, too!
