Possibly I'm the last person on the internet to see this interview with series writer and co-executive producer Ted Sullivan, but I thought I'd link it here in case I'm not.
There are some interesting tidbits and clarifications here regarding things that were seen in 1x06 "Lethe," as well as a couple of small spoilers at the end for 1x07 "Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad."

I hadn't really thought of it that way, because my experience with VR is limited and also out of date, but when he pointed out that they never actually touch the Klingons I was kind of like "ohhhhhhhh." I missed that completely, and it makes a huge difference.

Date: 2017-11-01 10:04 pm (UTC)It was a lot like laser tag, especially with the hit-count at the end! Aww. In a modern AU Ash and Lorca would definitely play a lot of laser tag.

Date: 2017-11-01 10:14 pm (UTC)These days my local public library has a bunch of those small, light headsets. I've never used one, because I suspect my glasses would interfere, plus it's not really my jam. But I feel like we're just a decade or so away from advancing to actual holographic shooting galleries, unless the world ends first.
Laser tag demographics:
- children
- people like me who are there to pretend they're action heroes for a bit and absolutely deny there's a competitive element but the important thing is that I'm usually in the top 5
- really intense men in army surplus who take it all way too seriously
Guess which ones Ash and Lorca are.

Date: 2017-11-01 11:24 pm (UTC)Same. Plus, honestly, my depth perception is completely fucked up, so I can't even do 3D movies. VR is definitely out of my reach. :P

Yeah, it's funny how many technological breakthroughs seem just around the corner if we can just, y'know, manage not to obliterate civilization first. Funny in the "cue nervous laughter" kind of way, mostly...
Guess which ones Ash and Lorca are.
Yeeeeeeah, strange thing, I feel like the smart money is on option 3. And on Lorca being the guy whose team you really don't want to be on if you're not taking it all exactly as seriously as he is.
