- I do not feel great about Admiral Kat's survival, but I'm hoping the line about grieving is misdirection.
- (Part of me is like, well, Doug Jones was helping Jayne Brook set up a Twitter account two weeks ago, she's clearly still in contact with the cast... But that way lies tinhatting.)

Was that a glimpse of Voq? Was a Klingon strangling Ash? It looks like at least part of this is on the Klingon prison ship? Was Saru in the trippy shroom navigator seat??

Oh. Hey. If we're suddenly back on the prison ship and we're seeing a Klingon strangling Ash and Saru was talking about being afraid, doesn't that make it sound a lot like something might be raising people's fears to the fore? That's a thought, anyway.

Not sure how Admiral Kat or an actual glimpse of Voq figures in, but it's a thought.

I'm always up for alien thingie whatsits that bring people face to face with their worst fears! (Except in Age of Ultron, that was ... not good.)

Maybe Lorca's worst fear is related to Kat, either dying, or living and exposing him. (Something something psychological Schrodinger Kat joke.) And Ash's subconscious fear is becoming Voq once again.

Iiiinteresting. I saw Saru surrounded by (inhaling?) something glowy and floaty, so I was all "ooh, planet of the...well, not SEX pollen, but something-pollen!" So fear-pollen makes sense??

Admiral Kat better damn well be alive and come back, is all I'm sayin on that. Grarhhh I haz feelinz. (Also Georgiou but I have had longer to deal with the possibility that she's not ALTHOUGH SHE BETTER BE.)

I doubt Lorca is talking about Admiral Cornwall. The crew, for the most part, does not know Kat. Why would they mourn her death?

I wondered about that, but while they don't know her as an individual, she's a senior admiral with oversight of Discovery's mission. So they'd be aware of her.

(Plus, I am ... concerned about Klingons and public executions and probably ill-considered allusions to contemporary warfare involving livestreamed beheadings.)

Low expectations mean I'm never disappointed. (Except when I am.) But I do hope you're right!

I hate to say it, but a public beheading makes sense. I've been trying to figure out what the Klingons would want her for. They could torture her for information about the spore drive, but they were expecting Sarek, who probably knows nothing about the tech.

Then again, it doesn't make sense from a narrative sense to just kill her off. It's just too easy.

This show makes my brain hurt.

I've been wracking my brain about that exact question for fic purposes. Is it simply to strike a blow against the Federation? To torture a senior Vulcan or Starfleet admiral until they make spurious public confessions which make the Federation look bad? A Manchurian Candidate scenario?

I tend to have a bad track record with characters named Cat or Kat. Suspect most of the cast might be axed since Bryan Fuller set this up as anthology show.

I "watched" it via gifsets and cleolinda's recaps because I knew otherwise I would have nightmares for years and never get the images out of my head. No that's a lie, I did watch the Tooth Fairy arc in the last season because of the connection with the book and movies. But other than that, noooo.

The writers mentioned in a recording I heard of their panel at ST:LV that there would be a Saru-centric episode, and this does indeed appear to be it!

And yeah, I definitely think that was a glimpse of Voq. That should be... interesting...

Let's see... going through as much frame-by-frame as clicking through YouTube will let me, it looks like we first see... I thiiiiiiiink it's actually L'Rell at about 0:23, yelling at probably Kat, judging by the hair that's hanging just barely into view? And then at 0:24, there's Ash being strangled, but I don't think that's a Klingon at all. The uniform looks the same as the tactical armor/uniform that Ash is wearing, black with raised black bands, all very matte. I'd guess Lorca?

The show is practically writing that fic, ahaha. Along with the Michael/Tilly and Michael/Tilly/Ash fic, which I greatly appreciate. And there were women dancing together at the dance! Right in the background of the Michael/Ash dance, so they couldn't be cut out. And then someone saw them later in the corridors.

I don't know! It could be anyone in that tactical jacket, but it seems like the good money is on either Lorca or Burnham, and it feels too early for Burnham to start strangling Ash!

I'll just be over here reminding myself that I need to go to bed and I have way too much work to do tomorrow to start hunting down Lorca/Ash fic...

I just freeze framed a bunch, and I think it's actually Saru strangling Ash -- you can see the hands aren't human or Klingon.

I kinda wish we had Voq and Ash in the same scene though because I'm starting to like Ash (OH NO) and I'm going to be sad if he's secretly evil.

That trailer looks really interesting. I'm really hoping that this will be a Saru episode - he looks like such an interesting character and yet we haven't really seen much of him.

Also I hope there will be more Lorca in this episode than we had in the previous one
