Also, I'd like to have weekly episode posts as they air (Star Trek! Airing every week! This is amazing!), but I'm in Australia, so I'm a few hours behind the US.
(I remember when we were a few years behind, and grateful if the VCR managed to get the whole episode because they ran at 11 o'clock at night and who knew how late the news would run?)
Anyway, if someone in America could take charge of episode posts, that would be amazing. I'm trying to avoid spoilers.

Date: 2017-10-28 10:02 pm (UTC)I do episode posts for at least the next few weeks. I have something on Sundays coming up starting the 11th, so someone else might be a better choice if their schedule is more open, but I can probably figure it out if no one else is available.

Date: 2017-10-28 10:13 pm (UTC)(I thought you might step up, just on a timing level -- I've noticed that your episode posts tend to come up before anyone else's on my reading page.)
(Not that I refresh all my feeds starting lunchtime Monday to see if people are talking about Discovery, and then torture myself by not clicking the cut tags. Noooooooo.)

Date: 2017-10-28 10:30 pm (UTC)Are you thinking a blank discussion post with just the title for people to commented in, posted at 5:30 PST and then watched by the person "in charge," or more of a post-facto "Here are a few things to think about re: this episode" kind of thing to start conversation? I'm happy to do either.
(Yeeeep. It's so cruel that they make everybody outside the US wait! It's streaming, ffs, people, just put it up everywhere!)

Date: 2017-10-28 11:24 pm (UTC)No, I think we have three left. Plenty of time to make me sad and angry by killing Cornwell!
Either is good! Whatever you feel like and have time for.
I don't really mind a few hours' wait, because it's not like I can take an hour out of my working day to watch Netflix. But I might feel differently if I had Mondays off. (A friend of mine did organise her four-day work week to accommodate Twin Peaks Mondays. She had no regrets.)

Date: 2017-10-28 11:40 pm (UTC)Oh good! ...Well. The part about three episodes. The rest, man, this show and its female characters. There's a part of me that wants to say "Don't worry, Cornwell's white!" too, which, EUGH. Because non-speaking redhead from the Shenzhou is still around, but we have to kill off Georgiou and Landry within two episodes each. Way to go, show. It's great that we have Burnham and the non-speaking black helmswoman, but maaaaaybe they could not burn through all the other WOC quite so quickly?

Okay, sounds good!

Ahhh, true, that might be even worse, if the show was available in the middle of the work day!

Date: 2017-10-29 12:06 am (UTC)RIGHT? I saw a post on Tumblr praising the show for its "complete lack of sexism", and I was like, I am pastier than Tilly and even I know that's some white feminism nonsense.

Date: 2017-10-29 02:58 am (UTC)"Complete lack of sexism," ohhhhh boy. No. This show has not solved every problem with the *isms in the Star Trek universe, any more than they were solved by casting Sisko or Janeway. Yikes.

Date: 2017-10-29 02:59 am (UTC)Me too! I was really excited when her casting announcement came out, because I remembered her from BSG and was hoping she'd be better served this time. So much for that hope!

Date: 2017-10-29 03:05 am (UTC)I really wanted her to respect Michael and slowly come around on the Lorca thing and stand up to him and be all like YOU DON'T OWN ME in a big scene or something. Because he has this habit of collecting rebellious or just nonconforming crew and also really manipulating them, and it seemed like he had something on her.

Date: 2017-10-29 03:34 am (UTC)Same, completely. Why do you think I remembered her and was excited, even after all these years? It wasn't because of all the hard work the BSG writers put into her character's arc, that's for sure.
It would have been such a great arc for Landry to come around and respect Michael and realize that Lorca was dicking them both around, just like he dicks everyone around. And I'm sure we're going to get there eventually (in the sense that Lorca will get his comeuppance at Burnham's hand), but it's not going to mean quite as much with Georgiou and Landry both dead, damn it! And Landry, man, that was just such a stupid death.

Date: 2017-10-29 03:44 am (UTC)I had already sort of noped out on BSG (although my husband and I kept bingewatching til the end) but how they treated Tory and Ellen and Dee was so aggravating. How they treated ALL the women was infuriating by the end. sigh. Oh show. You were so great for a while.

YES also I personally love that prickly "Well I still can't really stand you but I respect you and will go along with your plan, and maybe I like you more but I'm not going to admit it" dynamic. They seemed perfectly set up for it.
And I'm sure we're going to get there eventually (in the sense that Lorca will get his comeuppance at Burnham's hand), but it's not going to mean quite as much with Georgiou and Landry both dead, damn it! And Landry, man, that was just such a stupid death.
SERIOUSLY. And Landry was not stupid! She couldn't have survived that long in those harsh circumstances being that stupid. She did seem kind of harsh and drill instructor-ish when we first saw her, but it was like they just wrote the character off rather than giving her any subtlety. And it made Michael look stupid too -- this thing just KILLED one of your crewmates, no people aren't going to listen to you.
-- Oh well that's what fic is for. I see myself writing something where Landry is horribly injured and has to go thru rehab and Lorca is unsympathetic and demotes her, and she starts seeing more of Michael. And Philippa is obviously in some Klingon prison (SPACE CANNIBALISM LOL) and Kat will rescue her and they'll come back all HI LORCA, HOW YOU DOING. NOT SO GOOD.
(I do really really enjoy the show, and the diversity is great. I just wish it was even better. I also hope it's not going to break my heart. I really think they're going for Captain Burnham in the midseason break, or at the start of S2.)

Date: 2017-10-29 06:58 am (UTC)Could have character tags that *existed* but were optional? Like, use them for fic or art if you wanted, but you wouldn't have to, and you wouldn't be expected to for discussion posts or whatever.
I feel like over-tagging might smother things, but we can always add more tags.
Also in favour of episode posts, and of
